Do you calculate the odds of a hand when your playing?
I don't know why but I really have a hard time working out the hands other players can have, especially with a lot of players in the game.
What do you do to calculate your chances of winning?
straightace 12-12-2005, 01:18 AM Those that are facing up I would, but its like in long running games, you start to wear out and not to bother about that, which makes it dangerous...
mason 12-12-2005, 01:32 AM I am always counting my outs, the trick is to make sure you're not giving yourself too many.
fdb05 12-13-2005, 04:24 PM I can't calculate odds but I do try weight up the chances as quick as possible with online games.
A lot of rooms really don't give enough time to think in online rooms and it's something that really annoys me.
cfpokermoney 12-14-2005, 05:20 AM if you check out my website there is a link for a odds calculator you can use. That is what I used for a few months until I figured out the odds. This is a great utility to get you started on knowing all the possible hands in every situation.
Emerge 12-18-2005, 08:21 AM Only for big pots.
MySpades 12-25-2005, 07:11 PM I don't. First, I don't know how to, and second, I don't think to think too hard when I'm playing. When it's my turn, I just quickly think "raise, call, fold, check (or bet, if no one has yet)". I would probably do better if I calculated my odds, but I just do Poker mostly for fun, and that just would take some fun away from it (for me, at least).
John D 12-25-2005, 08:40 PM Even if your playing for fun it's more fun if you end up with more play money ;)
I count my outs too, I can calculate odds but it's always going to be a bit off, close enough to know if a call would be worth the risk or not though.

Youre right if youre playing poker just for fun and dont want to be a serious poker player then dont do that calculating. In the other hand if you think you will pursue your career on poker. Then I will recommend you to always to compute the odds.
IdeasFactory 03-03-2006, 09:34 AM When I started playing online I used "texas calculatem" odds checker. It bolts onto most online tables and works everything out automatically.
Its a good why to strat but don't rely on it
pokerphun22 03-04-2006, 12:09 AM Nah, I never calculate the odds.
cochise 03-14-2006, 05:32 PM I do...I have a pretty good head for calculating math and fractions so I at least let myself know how many outs and such I have in a given hand. I wouldn't say I'm a human calculator though, there are plenty of hands I just dive into without thinking about it twice.
John D 03-14-2006, 07:02 PM Maybe I should have tried harder at Maths when I was at school, and I always thought it could never be used for anything in the real world :D
Just kidding. If only I was better at maths though, I have always been bad at it.
Wish I did concentrate a bit more years ago, might have helped a lot for poker!
cochise 03-15-2006, 09:15 PM Theres a class here at my campus specifically for statistics in games. I think I am going to try to enroll in this to get a better idea of how to quickly figure out stats.
I don't think I'll ever reach Lederer status though...
