Just a quick question about a situation that I had the other day. I'm fairly new to the game but I think I called it right.

I play in a low stakes game. this night I was the host.

After we saw the river card , there was just me and this other guy left.

I had 2 pairs Kings and 8's with a 10.

he had the exact same hand.

I said that we split the pot but he insisted that we goto the 6th card which if we did he had a 9 and I had a 7. So he said he should have taken the whole pot. I insisted that you can only use your best 5 cards so we split it but he is still mad about the whole thing.

So who was right?

How exactly did you play it?

Did you give two cards to each player then have 5 on the table?

You should have two each and 5 on the table if you are playing hold em, which I am assuming you are.
If you both have the same hand then it's a split pot..there is no time that you can ever or should ever put down an extra card...I really don't know where he got that from.

were you playing pineapple? I think we need more detail. If you were playing hold em, there is never...ever, ever a 6th card (also known as the ocean) in regulation hold em. It sounds like a split pot to me.

I'm confused with his question.

I cannot advice on this one unless I will know what type of game they are playing.Anyway if your playing holdem I guess I agree on John that the pot must be split.
And you dont have to have a 6th card to decide who won the game.

Just split the pot. If it's a low-stakes game, I mean, it's only one game. You shouldn't be fighting, you should be saying "whoah isn't that cool how we got the same hand?" Split pot ain't so bad.

Um, did you just give yourself advice, MySpades? Because if so, you might want to start videotaping yourself just to make sure you're not starting a fight club when you think you're sleeping.

You'd think I'd have a more modern reference than "Fight Club," wouldn't you?

Oh were you playing for money?
If so how much did your friend loose?
Best thing would be to give him his money back keep your money that you put in and call it a draw or something instead of going into a fight of who was right.
