Another question...
Rake is a term I never heard until I started playing online, what exactly is it and does it only happen in online games?
Thank you very much

it happens online and in Casinos.
the "rake" is a portion of the pot that the "house" (casino or online site) takes. It can vary from place to place but it is usually a fixed percentage of the pot, a flat amount or in some places, there is a session fee.
Does that answer your question?

Oh! I always wondered what rake was! Now I finally understand why some of those other Poker forums have "rake" in their name. I also wondered how Poker forums made so much money, I thought they like put professional players in games to take money, but that rake system works much better.

rake is a terrible thing for online poker players. regular online poker players have no clue that they are throwing hundreds, even thousands of dollars into the rake each and every month they play. the rake is how online poker companies have become the fastest growing businesses on the planet this century. Think about all the tables going on simultaneously, and they are taking anywhere from 25cents to 3 dollars per hand on any given table. These online poker sites are making millions upon the hour! I suggest if you are considering playing online poker regularly you find the appropriate way to beat the rake as best you can.
